Airworthiness Privacy Policy

Last updated 30 May 2026

Draft for review. This describes the Part 66+ app's behaviour as found in the current code on 30 May 2026. Please review it, ideally with a legal eye, before publishing. It is not legal advice.

Airworthiness Limited, which trades as The Airworthiness Company, respects your privacy and is committed to protecting your personal data. This notice explains how we handle your personal data across the products and services we provide. It currently covers the Part 66+ app, and we will add a section for each further product as we release it.

Part 66+ is built privacy-first. Your logbook and records stay on your device and in your own private iCloud, which we cannot see. We run no server of our own, show no advertising, and include no third-party tracking or analytics. The only information that becomes visible to others is what you deliberately choose to share to the in-app feed.

In this notice, "personal data" means information about an identified or identifiable individual. You do not have to give us your personal data, but some features will not work without it. For example, you cannot create an account without Sign in with Apple.

1. Data controller

Airworthiness Limited (trading as The Airworthiness Company) is the data controller for the personal data described here. We are a company registered in England and Wales (company number 17130234), with our registered office at Collingwood Buildings, 38 Collingwood Street, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE1 1JF, United Kingdom. As data controller, we decide how your personal data is collected, used, protected, and deleted. You can reach us at contact@airworthiness.co.

2. How we collect your personal data

We collect personal data in three ways:

  • Directly from you, in the app: when you sign in, when you record your maintenance tasks, training, exams, licences and profile, and when you choose to post to the feed.
  • From Apple, when you sign in: Sign in with Apple gives us an account identifier and, if you allow it, your name and email address. You can share Apple's private relay address instead of your real one.
  • When you contact us: through our website contact form or by email.

Unlike many companies, we do not buy personal data from data brokers, and we do not build profiles of you from outside sources.

3. Why we use your personal data, and our legal bases

Under UK data protection law we must have a lawful basis for using your personal data. Our purposes and bases are:

  • To create and run your account (your Apple account identifier, name and email): to perform our contract with you.
  • To store and sync your records (tasks, training, exams, licences, profile): to perform our contract with you. These are held on your device and in your own private iCloud.
  • To run the feed, when you choose to share something: your consent, given each time you post.
  • To provide Premium (your subscription status): to perform our contract with you. Payment is handled by Apple, and we never see your card details.
  • To send reminders about training, module and licence dates: our legitimate interest in helping you keep your records current, using only data already on your device.
  • To answer your enquiries: our legitimate interest in responding to you.
  • To meet legal obligations and protect our rights: compliance with the law.

Where we rely on your consent, you can withdraw it at any time. We do not make automated decisions that have a legal or similarly significant effect on you.

Research and marketing preferences. The app may show optional toggles, for example for anonymised analytics or research. These are off by default and currently transmit nothing: we operate no server and share no data with third parties for analytics, research or marketing. If that ever changes, we will update this notice and ask for your consent first.

4. What we do not do

  • No advertising, no advertising identifiers, and no tracking of you across other apps or websites.
  • No third-party analytics, tracking, or crash-reporting software in the app.
  • No selling or renting of your personal data.
  • No use of your data to train artificial intelligence.
  • No server of ours that collects or stores your records.
  • No profiling that produces legal or similarly significant effects.

The app includes one small open-source component, FlagKit, used only to show country flags. It sends no data anywhere.

5. Who has access, and international transfers

Because we run no server, the parties involved are few:

  • Apple: your records sync to your own private iCloud (Apple CloudKit), your sign-in is provided by Sign in with Apple, and your subscription is processed by Apple's StoreKit. Apple handles this under Apple's own privacy policy. We cannot read your private iCloud.
  • Other users of the app: only the content you choose to post to the feed, together with your display name, employer and role. Nothing else about you is visible to other users.
  • Legal and safety: we may disclose data where the law requires it, or where necessary to protect people's safety or our legal rights.

We do not sell your data, and we use no advertising partners or data brokers. Apple operates globally, so your data may be processed outside the United Kingdom. Apple maintains appropriate safeguards, such as Standard Contractual Clauses, for those transfers.

6. Security

Your data is protected by Apple's platform security. Your sign-in details are held in your device's Keychain, and your records are stored in your private iCloud, both encrypted by Apple. Because we keep no server copy of your records, there is no central database of ours to breach. We use appropriate measures to protect any data we do handle, although no method of storage or transmission can be guaranteed completely secure.

7. How long we keep your data

Your records stay on your device and in your iCloud until you delete them, and we keep no separate copy. Deleting your account from the app's Settings clears your data from the device, and you can remove the app's iCloud data from your Apple ID settings. If you post to the feed, that post stays in the shared area until you delete it, although anyone who has already seen or copied it may still keep it.

8. Children

Part 66+ is intended for aircraft maintenance professionals. It is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will remove it.

9. Your rights, and how to exercise them

Subject to UK data protection law, you have the right to: be informed about how we use your data; access a copy of it; have it corrected; have it erased; restrict or object to its use; data portability; and withdraw consent where we rely on it.

Because your data lives on your device and in your own iCloud, you can view, export and delete most of it yourself in the app at any time. The app's Settings include Export and Delete options. For anything else, email contact@airworthiness.co. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), the UK regulator, at ico.org.uk.

10. Other apps and services

The app relies on Apple's services (iCloud, Sign in with Apple, and StoreKit), which are governed by Apple's privacy policy. Our website may link to other sites that we do not control, and this notice does not apply to them.

11. Changes to this notice

We may update this notice as our products or the law change. We will post any changes on this page and update the "last updated" date above.
